Reports indicate that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Major Comeback for the Franchise
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will probably be featured in a future-set scene, considering the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several prominent actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.
