American Online Personality Fined Following Mass E-Bike Ride on Sydney Harbour Bridge

New South Wales authorities have levied a penalty against an American social media personality and handed out two driving violation citations for alleged reckless operation following a swarm of electric bicycle users gathered on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during the busy commute on Tuesday.

The Incident: An Illegal Gathering

A gathering of around 40 people riding e-bikes and motorcycles travelled along the bridge’s main deck, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The assembly subsequently reversed direction and rode through the city’s CBD and Haymarket.

"There was a risk of serious injury or fatalities," remarked a senior police official the officer on the following day.

Police said they did not immediately pursue the riders out of safety concerns but instead located the group at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed.

Penalties Issued for Content Creator

On Saturday, authorities stated they had issued the American online personality known as Sur Ronster, 26, with two traffic infringement notices for careless operation (not involving death or prior injury), carrying a penalty of $562 and penalty points each, connected to the bridge incident. They added that inquiries were continuing.

The influencer reportedly has more than 3.4 million subscribers on one platform and more than 1.2 million on the social media app.

Creator's Response

The online figure spoke with a major newspaper recently following the event gained traction on digital platforms, stating he regretted giving "bike life" a bad reputation.

"I accept the blame. That was among the safest ride-outs I’ve ever seen," he told the publication. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to come here respecting the laws and norms of Sydney. When I decided to do a public meeting it did not involve a ride-out, it was just to greet people under the bridge."

"I did not know the area well, I am to blame we ended up on the bridge and I had two choices: whether the group rides the full length of the bridge and comes back, which is a crime. Or we reverse, essentially, before entering the bridge. And I made the decision at the time to turn around."

Broader Context on Electric Bike Rules

The spate of e-bikes on roads nationwide has prompted growing calls for stricter rules. The federal health minister, the minister, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "complete hazard on the road."

"Kids have done reckless acts on bikes ever since the early bicycle [but] the harm that are presenting at our ERs are absolutely devastating," he stated. "We’ve got to make sure we prevent these things coming into the country [and] officers are given the powers to crack down, to confiscate them, to destroy them, to dispose of them."

The state recorded over two hundred injuries related to electric bikes in the previous year. But, in the initial half of 2025, that number surged to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four fatalities.
