Accused Harasser Asked: 'However What If I Might Be Madeleine?'
A woman indicted with harassing Kate McCann allegedly left her a voicemail message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has persistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the tribunal learned call records and data retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test during 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported child disappearance cases and continues to be open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
One phone message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm overweight and not pretty like Madeleine used to be, but I know what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's recording said: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I am she? Then what? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I don't want money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the recording stated.
The panel was informed that via electronic messages, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with the police force who collated the evidence, told the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with family friends of the McCanns, as per the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will continue and I plan to establish my position."
The court learned the co-defendant established a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in the county in December 2024.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had contacted through messaging service to Mrs McCann to express the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the period leading up to the trip to Rothley, that area, in December 2024.
The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in that autumn, discussing endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from utensils at a restaurant.
"We need to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their home, the defendant transmitted a communication which expressed: "We find ourselves positioned adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark like private investigators. I wanted to achieve this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The case proceeds.
